This exhibition, telling the colourful 625-year history of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, draws visitors straight into their lively company. They speak to you, ask you to assign roles for the feast, invite you to serve them food, and let you decide who wins the popinjay shooting contest. This exhibition of the rich and the handsome is just like life itself — diverse, joyful, and thought-provoking.

The entire city buzzed with tales of their legendary Christmas and Shrovetide celebrations, as the Blackheads ran Tallinn’s social life like their own personal events calendar.

The exhibition takes you on a journey through the centuries: you can peek into the Blackheads’ splendid art treasures, explore the origins of the Christmas tree, choose wives for the Blackheads, and see how a festive brotherhood grew over more than 625 years into a force that shaped life in Tallinn. Come and discover how the medieval upper class really lived — with joy, splendour, and a great deal of revelry!
